My research interests include:
* The study of a visual thinking, visual learning, & communication (also known as multimedia learning) and my collaborators are Laura S. Johnson and Jeffrey Jablosnski;
* The preservation of music books, periodicals, recordings, and other primary sources in academic archives (especially Heavy Metal and Hardcore Punk);
* Heavy metal music and subculture
* And Strategies and methods for fostering popular culture research and collaborations.

Currently, I am helping to co-found The International Society for Metal Music Studies, a refereed journal from this ISMMS group, and a conference on Heavy Metal and Popular Culture that will take place in the spring of 2013 at BGSU in Ohio. Also updating and expanding a large bibliography of scholarly items on heavy metal music/subculture (and related genres) and a directory of relevant scholars.
